For the last couple weeks, citizens of Wisconsin have occupied thier capital in Madison. Governor Scott Walker proposed a bill that is supposed to "fix" Wisconsin's $137 Million deficit and $3.6 Billion budget shortfall for the next few years. However, after looking over this bill and listening to the prank phone call of "David Koch" to Governor Scott Walker, it is clear to see the true intention of this bill is not to "fix" the debt problem in Wisconsin. The true intention is to weaken the strong public sector unions. The first topic of the budget repair bill, is the removal of collective bargaining rights of unions.
The people of Wisconsin were not able to stand for the removal of collective bargaining from unions. Thousands came to the Captiol, day after day to have thier voices be heard. Firefighters, teachers, nurses, supporters children, other union members, and fellow citizens came to be in solidarity as labor movement.
Also in the recent budget release is this:
Mandate Relief for Local Government
- Remove the requirement that a municipality or county operate a recycling program to manage solid waste in compliance with the disposal restrictions and eliminate the financial assistance program for local governmental recycling programs.
- Reform regulations for effluent limitations on phosphorous so that Wisconsin's regulations are no more stringent than neighboring states, and repeal and recreate the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems stormwater standard requiring communities to reduce their total suspended solids 40 percent by 2013 so the standard is no more stringent than federal law and take into account its cost to municipalities
Not only is Scott Walker and his follwers want to destroy collective bargaining for unions, he also wants to destory recycling programs across the state.
Why must he attack the rights of workers, and the health of the environment in Wisconsin?
On Sunday, these protest became personal to our hearts. Today, I discovered this picture with a link on Facebok. Our fellow Cultural REcyclists Anjel, went back to Madison last week to finsih a film. He told me he was rallying and occupying in solidarity with the unions at the Capitol building.
On Sunday, the police refused to unlock the doors to the Capitol so protestors wouldn't be able to occupy the building for what would have been the fifteen consecutive night. I haven't been able to speak we Anjel this week. However, from these picture taken on Sunday, it seems to me that Anjel could use some postive energy and love from all of us.
After apparently refusing to leave the Capitol, he was removed from the ledge by police. I do not know anything besides what I infered from these pictures.
Anjel if you we this, we love you, please contact us, and we stand with Wisconsin to manifest that Govenor Scott Walker is denied victory in this attack against public workers rights. Postive energy is flowing your way brother!
Peace, Solidarity & much love,
Tina Sapphire Berry
